INEGI participation on ECTP Conference showcasing CircEUlar results

CircEUlar research focused on the built environment was showcased by INEGI at the European Construction and Sustainable Built Environment Technology Platform (ECTP) Conference 2026, held in Brussels, Belgium, on 26-27 May 2026. This year under the remit “Building Europe’s Competitiveness in the Built Environment: from Strategic Vision to Industrial Impact”, the conference brought together representatives from academia, industry, research organisations and policymakers to discuss innovation pathways for a more sustainable, resilient and circular built environment. The event provided a forum for ECTP members to present ongoing work in the field, while promoting the debate on key challenges and future developments for the sector.

At the event, INEGI presented a poster featuring the results of the application of the so-called Spatial Urban Energy and Materials Model (SUE2M) to the cities of Porto and Berlin, developed within the CircEUlar project. This work explored the influence of different drivers (e.g. urban form, socio-economic and behavioural factors) influence energy and material demand in buildings and mobility through a spatially-explicit and data-driven framework. The work attracted considerable interest from participants, especially given that circularity was identified as a cross-cutting strategic area of work, for the ECTP partnership up to 2034.

The conference proved to be an important opportunity for exchanging knowledge and experience with other European initiatives and research streams, and proved to be a relevant forum to present CircEUlar research, given the project’s alignment and contribution in promoting more circular built environments.
