Yee Van – from our CircEUlar partner UOXF – delivered a talk on “Broader Impacts of Digitalisation on Decarbonisation Pathways” at the 11th International Conference on Low Carbon Asia (ICLCA), based on work co-contributed by Charlie Wilson, Alessio Mastrucci, and George Kamiya. The presentation formed part of the CircEUlar project’s work, exploring how digitalisation can drive low-carbon transitions, while also considering its own environmental footprint and ways to mitigate these impacts. Yee Van also served as chairperson for the Low Carbon Solutions session and co-authored the paper “Exploring EU Member States’ Resilience in Meeting 2030 Energy and Climate Targets,” which was also presented at the conference.
Held in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia, the ICLCA stands out among sustainability conferences for its focus on bridging policymakers and researchers. It provides a platform where scientific evidence and policy ambitions come together to support practical low-carbon pathways across Asia and beyond. This year’s conference gathered mayors from several Malaysian cities, as well as the Premier and Deputy Premier of Sarawak, who shared their respective low-carbon and circular economy initiatives, particularly in the transport and buildings sectors. It also featured leading researchers working on integrated resource management and climate change mitigation, including contributors to the IPCC reports.
These discussions offered valuable perspectives closely aligned with the themes of the CircEUlar project. Some of the insights from Yee Van’s presentation will feature in the upcoming Report “Synthesis report on potential contribution of digitalisation to the circular economy” (Deliverable D5.1), currently being prepared jointly by CircEUlar partners and to be made publicly available.
